Joe retired in March 2021 after serving as the CEO for Vivalon, formerly known as Whistlestop. a position he held for 12 years. Vivalon’s mission is to ensure that every adult can age with independence, dignity, and grace. For the past 68 years, Vivalon has been providing a hub of essential specialized transportation, nutrition, healthcare, and social equity and inclusion services delivered through the power of human connection. Joe’s vision for an innovative community care model for the elderly will be realized by opening a new Healthy Aging Campus in San Rafael, CA, in August 2023.

Joe provides executive leadership coaching and consultation to healthcare and community-based nonprofit organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and the country. He offers a depth of insight to clients, tapping into his recent leadership experience at Vivalon and other experiences such as being part of the founding senior management team for seven start-up organizations, steering the Marin County’s Aging Action Initiative (AAI), and serving on several boards.

Joe was identified as one of the leading health care entrepreneurs by California Medicine Magazine in its 1998 “Who’s Who” list. In 2006, Joe received the Center for Nonprofit Leadership’s prestigious “Heart of Marin” award for excellence in board leadership.

Joe was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1951. He graduated from Bryant University in 1973 with a BSBA degree and relocated to California in 1978. Joe and his wife Vickie have four children and five grandchildren and enjoy traveling, golf, swimming, and hiking.
